Dillard University, in partnership with Amerihealth, Lighthouse, Topbox, and Feigley Communications, announces a community event on January 15, 2024, for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. The event starts at 10 a.m. at the university’s campus, 2601 Gentilly Blvd., New Orleans, focusing on food insecurity among older adults.

Nick Harris, Executive Director of DU Community Relations, comments on the event. “Our MLK Day of Service will distribute over 200 boxes of fresh produce and fruits to older adults and families. We’re also initiating a community garden on campus to support our food studies and research programs and strengthen community ties,” said Harris.

The event will include the distribution of 200 dry food boxes filled with fruits and vegetables, in collaboration with Amerihealth, Lighthouse, Topbox, and Feigley Communications.

Additionally, a Community Health and Resources Fair will be held, offering health-related information and resources to attendees.

The day will also feature special appearances by members of the New Orleans Saints and their Cheer Krewe, adding a celebratory aspect to the service day.
