Racial tensions in America are again on the rise, putting Black activism and achievement in the media spotlight. As a result, Historically Black Colleges and Universities are being highlighted by major news outlets and researched more online.

We see an opportunity to expand on the success of HBCU Research Magazine with a news outlet that brings the magic of HBCU academics and culture to life and empowers the public to support HBCUs financially online.

The mission of HBCU News is to become the foremost organization for HBCU public relations and financial support by celebrating and even normalizing Black academic achievement and culture at the collegiate level.

Using modern web and mobile app technology, our goal is not only to report the news but to engage website and mobile app users in ways that are exciting, relevant, and convenient.

Exploiting the deficits in current HBCU news reporting, we see a clear path to consistent and long term user engagement by meeting the cultural and technological needs of HBCU alumni and supporters.

The HBCU News website and mobile app deliver a custom user experience based on how individuals consume news and information. Readers can search for news by school or topic, receive mobile push notifications on the news topics they choose to follow, and even engage in discussions and fundraising campaigns to support HBCUs and scholarships.
