“HBCU White House” set to air on Detroit Live

Start

Beginning March 23, 2021, a new talk show will regularly air on Detroit Live. Hosted by Alvin Woods, a graduate of Southern University and A&M College, a PR and advertising expert and founding father of the Media Model, a brand strategy and consulting company in New York City. The show will heavily consider political news and business stories from an HBCU angle.

Airing Tuesdays and Thursdays (streaming episodes also will be available online) at 4 p.m. EST, the show aims to spark conversation via authentic storytelling while highlighting American urban businesses, people of color, trailblazing women, and other impactful minorities.

According to the show’s website (hbcuwhitehouse.com), “the national profile of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (or HBCU’s) was boosted with the election Kamala Harris to the office of Vice President of the United States of America. ‘HBCU White House’ will celebrate diverse aspirational narratives that further advance the achievements of HBCU alumni, supporters and friends.”

“Detroit has always been a pacesetter within the fight for racial justice and therefore the advancement of individuals of color. We are excited to welcome ‘HBCU White House’ to the WHPR-TV Detroit Live Family,” says RJ Watkins, CEO of WHPR-TV, during an interview.”Our vision is to teach, entertain, and encourage, in partnership with our community. The new show is aimed toward a national audience, and we anticipate that people across the country will be interested and become engaged in this relevant piece of entertainment.”

The show also promotes student enrollment in HBCUs through the STEMM UP Business platform, a scholarship slated to launch this summer for top school seniors who pledge their attendance to an HBCU and also students currently enrolled at an HBCU with a minimum of 12 completed credits.
