Harris-Stowe State University has joined Webster University’s Webster International Network of Schools (WINS) program, expanding its study abroad program portfolio to include Webster’s international campuses, creating new opportunities for students and faculty to study and teach in Europe, Asia, Africa and Central America.
This new partnership will serve an important role for two unique institutions to deliver international higher education to the St. Louis community. Harris-Stowe State University is strongly committed to providing a high-quality higher education experience that is both affordable and accessible to the diverse populations within and beyond the metropolitan St. Louis region. Webster University has an impressive network of campuses in North America, Asia, Europe and Africa, as well as partnerships with numerous other colleges and universities in Asia, Europe and Central America.
Sabrina Brown, Interim Executive Director of Academic Engagement at Harris-Stowe, and Kim McGrath, WINS Director at Webster University, look forward to collaborating in new ways.
“We are thrilled to participate in the WINS program,” Brown said. “This new partnership provides access to unique courses in a challenging yet familiar American-style environment at each of Webster’s unique international campuses and makes a very exciting partnership as we build connections between two distinctive St. Louis institutions.”
The historically Black public university has an extensive academic support program, a college-preparatory academy for urban youth, supervision of student progress, and many community outreach and collaborative partnerships with businesses, government, and educational institutions. Webster’s campuses will complement Harris-Stowe’s current study abroad programs in Haiti, China, Senegal, Belize, and Israel.
McGrath echoed Brown’s statement.
“Bringing Harris-Stowe into the WINS program is a wonderful development and opportunity to broaden Webster’s global mission through a local partner,” McGrath said. “Webster’s international network provides opportunities for Harris-Stowe, who in turn would diversify Webster’s study abroad populations from the home campus, from other partners and from around the world.”
Harris-Stowe joins other Missouri WINS partners, including St. Louis University, Missouri Baptist, Fontbonne, and Columbia College. In addition, the university is one of a growing number of historically black colleges and universities (HBCU) – including Tuskegee University, Spelman College, and Florida A&M University – that are actively participating in the WINS program.
