Jackson State University’s Misti Munroe, associate vice president for the Division of Business and Finance, is a recipient of the 2021 Mississippi Business Journal’s Leaders in Finance award. This is the ninth year to recognize leaders who have shaped the finance, banking and CPA sector in the state of Mississippi.
“We’re pleased to be able to recognize so many great top finance professionals with this program,” said Tami Jones, publisher of the Mississippi Business Journal. “These individuals are at the top of their field in the financial sector, and certainly deserving of the honor.”
Munroe assists the chief financial officer in the administration of all financial operations of the University. She provides strategic leadership and guidance for coordinating and implementing operational improvements, financial planning and long-range forecasting. She participates on various university committees, serving as a member of the Administrative Council and holds the position of secretary/treasurer of the Jackson State University Educational Building Corporation.
“I am so honored to have been named one of the 2021 Leaders in Finance,” said Munroe. “Receiving this honor is a testament to the guidance, support and encouragement of the leaders and mentors I have been blessed to have in my life. For this I am very grateful.”
Before joining JSU, Munroe was chief revenue officer for the Legislative Budget Office (LBO). She forecasted and monitored the revenue and cash flow of the general fund and all state-supported funds, totaling approximately $6 billion. In addition, she served as an adviser to the LBO’s executive director, lieutenant governor, speaker of the House, and legislators on various revenue and legislative matters. Munroe also prepared and presented the monthly revenue report to the Joint Legislative Budget Committee, legislators, state agencies, bond rating agencies and various media outlets.
Munroe was named one of the Top 50 Under 40 Business Professionals in 2019 and Top 10 Leading Business Women in 2015 by the Mississippi Business Journal. In 2016, she received the inaugural State Treasurer’s Achievement Recognition Award and was also named one of Trusted Insight’s Top 30 Women Chief Investment Officers nationally. Munroe is a member of the Hinds Community College Foundation Board of Directors and serves on the finance committee. Previously, she served as a member of the Junior Auxiliary of Rankin County; steering committee for the Metropolitan Women’s Forum; American Heart Association Circle of Red; and March of Dimes Executive Leadership Team.
Munroe earned her Master of Business Administration in finance from Mississippi College and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in marketing from Mississippi State University.
Leaders in Finance was first conceived in 2012 and the first program was launched in 2013. Nominations are received from highly qualified professionals from large and small companies and firms around the state. The nominations come from numerous of sources, including peers, professional acquaintances and leaders in the finance community.
