Jackson State University (JSU) has over 1400 students who have made the President’s List or Dean’s List for the Fall 2021 semester.

The President’s List is composed of students who, during a regular semester, complete a minimum of fifteen (15) semester hours with a semester grade point average of 4.00. The Dean’s List is composed of students who, during a regular semester, complete a minimum of fifteen (15) semester hours with a semester grade point average of 3.00 to 3.99.

Antwon Jefferson, elementary education major, and Britney Bobo, health care administration major, were among those named to the President’s List.

Jefferson recalled being anxious about coming from a Predominately White Institution (PWI) because he thought it would be difficult to adjust to the HBCU experience.

“But it was because of this institution that I was able to sing for the Vice President of the United States and perform on a live radio broadcast. Jackson State University has helped me to create a name and platform for myself. I was able to do all this while being a full time college student, maintaining a 4.0.,” said Jefferson, a senior.

He is referencing his experiences as part of JSU’s Vocal Jazz Ensemble. Jefferson was one of 105 HBCU students selected to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the nation’s national anthem, “The Star-Spangled Banner.” He received another opportunity to showcase his talents on-air during a radio interview spotlighting the Vocal Jazz Ensemble Director, Dr. Loretta Galbreath.

Bobo, a senior, said she believes making the list is a testament to her perseverance and drive for excellence.

“I knew that if I wanted to be successful in life, there was only one place to further my education – Jackson State University. Although the pandemic slowed the world down, it only motivated me to go harder,” she said. “I’ve always considered myself a top scholar, and making the President’s List, once again, is truly one of my greatest achievements. Being selected made me realize that my hard work in and out of the classroom is not being unnoticed.”

Diamond Chambers, a freshman psychology major, shared similar sentiments of gratitude for making the Dean’s List stating, “My experience at Jackson State has been surreal and filled with so many opportunities. There are also so many resources to be successful in education. Being selected to the list represents my dedication and passion for my education. I’m beyond grateful for the many opportunities Jackson State has provided and will continue to provide me in the future.”
