Over 100 Bowie State University students, faculty, administrators, and patrons of the Prince George’s County Arts and Humanities Council (PGAHC) traveled to New York City on Sunday, March 27, to watch BSU student Myles Frost perform in his debut role on Broadway as Michael Jackson in MJ: The Musical.

As they say, you have to see it to believe it! Frost’s high-energy along with his captivating stage presence and mastery of Michael Jackson’s songs and dance moves demonstrated why he is eligible to be nominated for a Tony Award.

The overall production at the Neil Simon Theatre was breath taking as Frost and the supporting cast performed Bad, Beat It, Billy Jean, Off the Wall, Thriller, and many of the other hit songs made famous by the “King of Pop.” Myles exhibiting his talent as a singer and exceptional dancer mimicking Michael Jackson’s patented “Moonwalk” and other intricate choreographed dance steps.

“He’s one of our own and he’s starring on Broadway portraying a music icon,” said Aminta Breaux, president of Bowie State University. “Myles Frost exemplifies excellence and the BSU family came to Broadway to show him our unyielding support.  Bowie State is supporting him today and will continue to follow his career over the years as he expands and grows as an entertainer.”

Frost is a fine arts – music technology major at Bowie State and was honing his skills in music production in addition to securing network singing roles, performing at music concerts, and other venues before auditioning for MJ: The Musical.

Frost says that attending Bowie State made him feel unencumbered. “I’m creative and Bowie State University allowed me to be free and helped me become who I am,” he said.

After the performance, Frost participated in a “Talk Back” to answer questions posed by students. “Have a real reason to do what you want to do,” he told students. “You grow up very fast in this setting and to prepare, it’s about practice, practice, and more practice.”

He was also presented with a citation of excellence by President Breaux and a proclamation from the Prince George’s County Executive declaring March 27, Myles Frost Day in Prince George’s County, Maryland. The Arts and Humanities Council partnered with the university to promote the excursion to New York.

“Myles Frost is showing everyone that his eligibility to be nominated for a Tony Award is not a fluke,” said Rhonda Dallas, PGAHC executive director. “When we learned he won the role for Broadway, we quickly decided to partner with Bowie State to promote him. He is absolutely electrifying to watch perform and if you close your eyes, you’ll think you’re listening to Michael Jackson sing. He’s an absolute phenomenal talent,” she added.

Frost said his mother posted a video on YouTube when he was a junior at Wootton High School in Rockville, Maryland performing Michael Jackson’s Billie Jean, which led to him receiving a call inquiring if he wanted to audition for the lead role in MJ: The Musical. And the rest is history.
