When you think about the law profession driving equality, do you consider who is behind the wheel? Do you consider where the profession is going? Since four UAPB graduates entered college in the mid-2010s, those drivers have increasingly become women. Seeing the results of these four women’s commitment to their purpose, UAPB extends congratulations and recognizes these UAPB female alumni who pursued the challenge and finished Law School in 2022. From the UAPB School of Arts and Sciences, they are Tonisha Cox ‘2018 with a B.A. in Political Science, Ja’Mecia Laws ‘2018 with a B.A. in Social Sciences/Political Science, Ajia Richardson ‘2018 with a B.A. in Political Science, and Angel (Thurman) Lockhart ‘2017 with a B.A. in Criminal Justice and a B.A. in English Literature.
Their passion for law and attending UAPB were their common ground. They are from different hometowns, Belleville, IL, East St. Louis, IL, Kansas City, MO, and Pine Bluff, AR. They attended, graduated, and received their Juris Doctor degree from different Law Schools, including Howard University School of Law, Washington D.C., University of Chicago Law School, Chicago, IL, Washington University School of Law, St. Louis, MO, and William H. Bowen School of Law, UA Little Rock, AR. And they all share their positive undergraduate Pride experience and guidance as an integral springboard to completing their advanced law degree.
STUDENT-FOCUSED | SUCCESS-DRIVEN | MISSION-BASED
Henry Brooks IV, UAPB Political Science Instructor and a Ph.D. candidate in Public Policy, played a critical role in advising these students. Because we are student-focused, Brooks makes himself available to advise any student interested in attending graduate and professional schools. According to Mr. Brooks, “Our prelaw work is starting to look more like a proper prelaw program. Several of our current students and alumni just completed a semester-long Law School Admission Test (LSAT) course with Professor cummings from the UALR Bowen School of Law. Our two institutions have an admissions agreement that benefits our student’s admission if they obtain a certain GPA and LSAT score. We are also in touch with the University of Arkansas Law School in Fayetteville on the possibility of duplicating that agreement.”
Our student focus is one factor, success-driven and mission-based are others.
