Jackson State University President Thomas K. Hudson, J.D. and Tangelia Kelly, Ph.D., JSU director of marketing, are among the honorees for the 2022 Delta Business Journal Top Minority Business Leaders.
“I am honored to be selected as one of the top minority business leaders by Delta Business Journal,” said Hudson. “Serving as the 12th president of Jackson State University has been one of the greatest roles of my life, and each day I am inspired by the talented students, faculty and staff whom I serve. I humbly accept this honor in tribute to them.”
During his tenure, President Hudson launched the university’s strategic plan: JSU Elevate 2026, which is focused on student success, academic prominence and research excellence. Hudson was recently recognized as one of Mississippi’s Most Influential African Americans by Our Magazine.
Kelly expressed gratitude to be recognized among some of the area’s distinguished community business owners. She credits the academic institutions where she was trained and watching her parents and aunt operate successful businesses as her greatest inspirations.
“To be recognized as a top minority business leader is truly an honor,” said Kelly. “Jackson State University’s highly accredited College of Business also laid the foundation where professors were great mentors, and the curriculum prepared you for the business world. In addition, Belhaven University’s MBA program made me more well-rounded in the industry, and JSU’s Ph.D. program in Education Administration Supervision took my leadership skills to the next level. I’m elated to be part of this cohort, and I hope it inspires other minorities who want to pursue business.”
According to Delta Business Journal, the men and women selected exemplify the qualities of leadership, experience and community involvement that truly define the spirit of excellence that embodies the Mississippi Delta region.
