More than 408 students who made the Dean’s List for Spring Semester 2022 were honored for their achievement with a pre-game tailgate and half-time recognition at Bowie State’s final football game on Saturday Nov. 5 to demonstrate the university’s commitment to academic excellence and show support for BSU scholars.
Carl Goodman, provost and vice president for academic affairs, said acknowledging students in a public forum for their work goes a long way to encourage greater academic performance for all students. To qualify for the Dean’s List, an individual must be a full-time, degree-seeking undergraduate student taking graded courses and have a 3.5 GPA or higher.
“There were 975 students who made the Dean’s List in spring 2022 which represents 23 percent of the 4,126 undergraduates who were enrolled as full-time students,” said Dr. Goodman. “That’s very impressive. I believe it is absolutely essential to honor our students who make the Dean’s List in a public forum so that they feel special. We also want to motivate other students to strive to perform at a high level academically so they can also make the Dean’s List.”
Provost Goodman credited BSU’s full-time and adjunct faculty members for providing the high quality instruction which helped students achieve academic excellence qualifying them for the Dean’s List,.
“Many students today attend classes while holding down jobs and/or supporting families,” said Provost Goodman. “That’s why acknowledging individuals who qualify for the Dean’s List is so important to students, their families, and friends.”
Provost Goodman said the university plans to honor Bowie State’s students who make the Dean’s List this fall semester next spring.
