No one has ever questioned the love Ericson Lanier has for his alma mater. And he’s showing it in a way that he hopes will motivate other graduates of Morris College, a historically black college striving to sustain and enhance its legacy of academic excellence.
Lanier, who graduated in 1989 from Morris College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics, magna cum laude, is currently serving a two-year term as president of the college’s National Alumni Association. He most recently served as second vice president.
The National Alumni Association is rightfully basking in the success of raising over $51,566 at its most recent annual National Alumni Weekend activities. It is one of the most significant efforts ever by the organization, and Lanier gets much of the credit for the accomplishment. It is due in equal parts as a result of his unwavering conviction about Morris College, his faultless humility, and his unmistakable passion for success.
“I take this significant role of leading the National Alumni Association very seriously,” Lanier said. “I can say without equivocation that Morris has played a key role in my personal success and other alumni.”
“I could not have done this alone. I want to thank all donors who contributed. We have a responsibility to help the Morris administrative team achieve the best for our beloved alma mater. I will do all that’s in my power to increase the various giving levels because the college deserves our best effort.”
“Morris College has provided and continues to provide a high-quality education for students, many of whom are the first in their family to enroll at an institution of higher education. Morris College needs our support to keep the doors of opportunity available to them.”
“Eric is demonstrating outstanding leadership as president of the National Alumni Association,” said Leroy Staggers, college president. “He is at the helm as Morris alumni enter a new era of fundraising. Eric speaks convincingly of his desire and commitment to move alumni giving to the next level.”
President Staggers said this record-setting funding-raising effort by the National Alumni Association would likely inspire increased alumni giving in the future.
“We want to build on this amazing success,” President Staggers said. “I am confident other alumni will become excited about the value of their Morris College experience and contribute to the fundraising goals of the National Alumni Association.”
