The Memorandum of Agreement signed Monday by Bishop State President Olivier Charles and Miles College President Bobbi Knight will guarantee the transfer of academic credits and provide ongoing collaborative campus advising for students.

Bishop State students who graduate with an associate degree and a minimum GPA of 2.0 may transfer up to 64 semester hours to Miles College toward a four-year degree. All transfer application fees will be waived for Bishop State students.

“This partnership will provide our Bishop State students a smooth transfer process for furthering their education at Miles College,” President Charles said. “Relationships such as these are key to the long-term success of our students and for providing opportunities for lifelong learning,” he said. “Additionally, Miles College will provide important services for students who have declared their intent to enroll, such as admission to Golden Bear athletic events, Learning Resource Center privileges, and career services.”

The MOA includes reverse transfer credit, which allows students who transferred from Bishop State to Miles College before completing an associate degree to still earn their associate degree through Bishop State. To qualify for reverse transfer credit, students must have earned at least 16 credit hours from Bishop State and three credit hours from Miles College, and they must be in good standing at both institutions.

As part of the agreement, Miles College will also offer transfer scholarships and send academic advisers to visit Bishop State to recruit and advise students, while promoting the transfer partnership agreement.

An additional advantage of the agreement is Miles College offers 100% online programs in business administration, criminal justice, and psychology for Bishop State students who would like to stay in Mobile and learn online.
