Clark Atlanta University will host ninth graders from the Douglass High School STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) Academy for the Google Career Community Scholars Academy as part of the university’s Professional Learning and Continuing Education (PLACE) initiative on June 20 – 23. The 4-day academy will give the students a glimpse into fields such as technology, media, and business. Additionally, the students will embark on an exciting tour of Hartsfield-Jackson to see the technology behind the complex luggage system at the world’s busiest airport.
“THE PLACE at Clark Atlanta University aims to engage learners and leaders in experiences that prepare them for their future,” said Mary A. Hooper, Ph.D., Associate Provost, Online Learning and Continuing Education. This Google Academy opportunity supports THE PLACE by helping develop skills through transformative workshops that provide invaluable insight to these young scholars.
Upon arrival at CAU, the students will be greeted by inflight professionals from Delta and United Airlines. They will receive Clark Atlanta University boarding passes and a passport for admission to this exciting career exploration tour. A bevy of workshops for the students includes Leadership vs. Management, Introduction to Digital Media, The History of Minorities in Technology, Introduction to Cybersecurity, and Introduction to Artificial Intelligence, and several others.
“With passports to the world of technology, students will explore business and technology in action thanks to community partnerships with Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and Google,” said Reginald D. Lewis, Director of Continuing Education, the PLACE at Clark Atlanta University.
Upon conclusion of the 4-day career exploration academy, the students will receive digital badges and certificates of completion.
