Coutesy of Bowie State University
The ambassador of Côte d’Ivoire, a country on the southern coast of West Africa, will visit Bowie State University as part this year’s International Education Week, which runs from Nov. 13-17.
Ambassador Ibrahima Touré will share a collection of national artifacts and traditional foods of Côte d’Ivoire on Thursday, Nov. 16, 2-4 pm. in the Center for Natural Sciences Beacon Room. A formal program featuring his keynote address will follow at 4-5 p.m.
International Education Week highlights and celebrates the international students and faculty that are a part of Bowie State’s fabric while spotlighting BSU’s study abroad programs and other opportunities for students to add a global perspective to their academic experience. There are currently 170 international undergraduate and graduate students at Bowie State representing over 31 countries.
“International Education Week is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide,” said Siriki Diabate, director of international students and services. “It’s a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and Department of Education as part of their effort to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn and exchange experiences.”
Diabate hopes that the ambassador’s visit can show the power of international education in action while reminding students they are members of a global world.
“Diplomacy itself is international education,” said Diabate. “It’s global learning. Diplomacy was created to make sure we have a fine understanding of international collaboration and partnership.”
