President Rochelle L. Ford is pleased to announce the appointment of Monique Guillory, Ph.D., as Dillard University’s new provost and chief academic and enrollment officer, effective April 1, 2024. Dr. Guillory will work with the interim provost, Mablene Krueger, between January 3rd and May 2024 to transition into the role.
A native New Orleanian, Dr. Guillory is a seasoned higher education professional with nearly 30 years of executive leadership experience at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs). Her expertise includes academic program development, accreditation processes, STEM pipelines, and student success. Additionally, she has served on the cabinets of six university presidents.
At Dillard University, she will serve as a senior cabinet member and in the administrative office, next in line to President Ford. As the Chief Academic and Enrollment Officer, Dr. Guillory will manage academic offerings and faculty initiatives and lead the implementation of an institutional recruitment and retention strategy.
“Dr. Guillory not only brings a wealth of experience as a teacher and scholar grounded in liberal arts, but she also has served at research universities with graduate programs,” said President Ford. “Each of these experiences will help Dillard achieve our strategic plan goal of offering more graduate degree programs and new professional development credentialing programs to meet workforce demands. Additionally, her local roots will help us achieve the vision of being a community advancing health, safety, and innovation.”
Dr. Guillory was most recently chief of staff and senior vice president for the University of the District of Columbia (UDC), where she led the development of the institutional strategic plan and provided leadership for UDC’s K-12 partnership with the Anacostia Feeder Pattern.
She previously worked at Morehouse School of Medicine as the chief of staff and chief administrative officer for the Office of the President and Dean, providing the campus leadership for COVID-19 mitigation during the height of the pandemic, facilitating the return-to-campus for all four institutions that comprise the Atlanta University Center Consortium (AUCC).
She has also been among the executive leadership team at Jackson State University, Xavier University of Louisiana, the Southern University System, and the University of the Virgin Islands.
Her broad administrative experience includes securing federal funding and philanthropic support of over $20M for various academic initiatives, such as establishing The Mississippi Learning Center at Jackson State University and The Honoré Center for Black Male Achievement at Southern University in New Orleans.

Dr. Guillory is a former member of the substantive change committee for the Middle States Commission for Higher Education (MSCHE), an experienced Middle States evaluator for regional accreditation, and previously served as member-elect for the Middle States Regional Council for the College Board.
She earned her Ph.D. in comparative literature and performance studies from New York University, where she was awarded the Arthur J. Schomburg Award for Excellence in the Humanities. She is the co-editor of “Soul: Black Power, Politics and Pleasure,” and is a former Mellon Fellow. Dr. Guillory is a fiercely proud New Orleanian who graduated from St. Mary’s Academy and Tulane University and currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors for St. Augustine High School.
