The SUSLA School of Nursing held its Pinning Ceremony for students completing the requirements for the Associate of Science in Nursing degree this Fall 2023 semester. Sixteen (16) students were pinned in a ceremony held in the Jackson Building Auditorium on Thursday evening, December 7, 2023. The speaker for the event was Stanley Johnson, RN, BSN – a 2017 SUSLA nursing alumnus and the Charge Nurse on the Electroconvulsive Therapy Unit at Brentwood Hospital.
The Pinning Ceremony is a rite of passage for nursing graduates to celebrate their transition from student to professional nurse. SUSLA graduates receive both a pin (designed by the faculty of the School of Nursing) and a lamp (which pays homage to Florence Nightingale’s service during the Crimean War). They also recite the Nightingale Pledge – an oath to faithfully practice at the highest level of the nursing profession.
Graduates will participate in a live, 3-day NCLEX review course which will further prepare them to take the licensing exam to become Registered Nurses. Best Wishes, Nursing Jags!
