Nominations for the 2024 Grammy Awards were announced and despite outstanding work performed by the Wilberforce band and choir on the gospel album, The Now Testament, there was no nomination for that production..
The highly anticipated selections were streamed live but the Best Gospel Album category was not part of the live announcements. However, WU learned later that The Now Testament did not make the nominations list.
The album was comprised of student musicians, alumni, and directors representing 10 historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) as the HBCU Symphony. Wilberforce’s participation was on the song Kingdom Party, featuring funk music artist, Bootsie Collins and the dynamic voice of gospel singer, Dorinda Clark.
The university is proud of its students and marching band director, Dr. Virgil Goodwine, and the director of vocal music and ensembles, Ms. Jasmyn Cooper.
The band and choir will continue making beautiful, quality music.
