Historically Black Alcorn State University in Mississippi has established a new STEM MBA program, the first of its kind in the state. The graduate degree was established in part through a $152,000 federal grant.

Offered through the School of Business, the new graduate degree program will prepare students to be business leaders in STEM industries. Considering the continually increasing number of tech and science-based companies and startups throughout the United States, there is a high demand for business leaders who have a strong understanding of STEM concepts.

The STEM-MBA program at Alcorn State University will be exclusively online and self-paced. The curriculum will integrate STEM and business concepts and focus on enhancing students’ skills in data analysis and strategic decision-making. Upon completion of the program, students will be prepared to take on careers in industries such as technology, consulting, finance, healthcare, manufacturing, and entrepreneurship.

Students must have an undergraduate degree in STEM or relevant professional experience to enroll in the program. However, the university will offer a non-credit STEM-MBA preparation program for students who do not meet those requirements. The preparation program will provide students with foundational concepts in STEM, as well as introductory business courses.

The new STEM-MBA program has already started enrolling students and classes will begin in August.
