HBCU womenâs basketball coach Edward Davis Jr. will be inducted into the Delaware State University Athletics 2024 Hall of Fame class on Friday, November 8, 2024, in Dover, Delaware.
Davis, who enters his ninth season as head coach of the Morgan State University womenâs basketball program, made significant contributions to Delaware Stateâs athletic legacy. The Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place on the DSU Dover Campus, honoring Davis and 12 other individuals for their outstanding contributions to the universityâs athletic legacy.
In their NCAA Tournament debut, the 15th-seeded Lady Hornets only trailed by three (43-40) with nine minutes left before ultimately falling to No. 2 seed Vanderbilt in the 2007 NCAA Tournament contest.
Davisâ legacy as the winningest coach in Delaware State Lady Hornets history is undeniable. Throughout his 12 seasons at the helm, he amassed an impressive 178 overall wins, including a remarkable 121-85 record (.587) in MEAC games. Davis played a pivotal role in elevating the Delaware State Lady Hornets basketball program to new heights, leaving an indelible mark on the universityâs athletic history.
A native of Washington, D.C., Edward Davis Jr. was inducted into the West Virginia State Athletics Hall of Fame as a player in October 2008 and the Bowie State Hall of Fame as a coach in May 2014. In September 2017, Davis was inducted into his third Hall of Fame when his 2006-07 Delaware State womenâs team was inducted for capturing the 2007 MEAC title.
