Clark Atlanta Alumnus Quinting Lacewell Jr. Elected Youngest U.S. Conference Mayors Business Council Co-Chair

During the United States Conference of Mayors’ 93rd Winter Meeting in Washington, D.C., Quinting S. Lacewell Jr. made headlines by being elected as the youngest co-chair of the U.S. Conference of Mayors Business Council. The election, presided over by Conference President Mayor Andrew Ginther of Columbus, Ohio, marked a significant milestone for Lacewell and the organization.

The U.S. Conference of Mayors is the official, nonpartisan association representing cities with populations of 30,000 or more. Each city is represented by its mayor, who acts as the chief executive and works to drive innovation and effective governance within its communities. The Business Council, comprising corporate leaders from some of the nation’s prominent enterprises, fosters collaboration between local governments and the business sector. It emphasizes that strong partnerships are essential for driving economic prosperity across America.

A Proven Leader

Lacewell, who currently serves as senior government relations & external affairs for Wells Fargo, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role. His background includes significant positions within the administrations of three prominent Democratic mayors: Kasim Reed and Keisha Lance Bottoms of Atlanta and Muriel Bowser of Washington, D.C. Additionally, he played a key role in the Grand Opening of Tyler Perry Studios, handling public relations and press logistics.

A native of Newark, New Jersey, Lacewell has already made a name for himself in strategic planning and crisis communications. His leadership capabilities were further recognized when he was named one of Clark Atlanta University‘s 2023 40 Under 40 Awardees. Furthermore, as a dedicated Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated member, Lacewell remains committed to community service and engagement, serving as the Minister to Young Adults at Community of Hope AME Church.

Lacewell’s ascent to the role of co-chair comes at a time when the U.S. Conference of Mayors is increasingly focused on enhancing national and international business opportunities for its members.
