The University of the District of ColumbiaĀ David A. Clarke School of Law (UDC Law)Ā has once again been recognized among the top institutions for legal education. In theĀ U.S. News & World ReportĀ rankingsĀ released today, UDC Law is ranked #2 in the nation for the percentage of graduates entering public interest careers and #19 for clinical training—affirming its leadership in preparing attorneys committed to public service, equity and justice.

ā€œSince its founding, UDC Law has stood out as a place where the law is taught not only as a profession, but as a powerful tool for community change,ā€ says UDC Law Interim DeanĀ Angela Gilmore. ā€œThis ranking reflects the dedication of our students, faculty, staff and alumni who continue to advance access to justice and expand the reach of legal services in the communities that need them most.ā€

UDC Law is known for its deep commitment to experiential education and features one of the largest clinical requirements in the country. Every student completes hundreds of hours of supervised, pro bono legal work—gaining hands-on experience while addressing real issues in areas such as housing, immigration, juvenile justice and legislative advocacy.

ā€œUDC Law is deeply rooted in purpose. Our students are here to make an impact—and they do,ā€ says UDC PresidentĀ Maurice D. Edington. ā€œWhether in courtrooms, classrooms or communities, they carry forward our mission of impactful service. This national recognition is a testament to the transformative education we offer at UDC Law.ā€

AĀ 2018 reportĀ by Gallup and Association of American Law Schools found that undergraduates most often cite ā€œpublic-spirited factorsā€ā€”such as a desire to work in politics, government or public service—as a top reason for considering law school. Other leading factors include a passion for the work, the opportunity to give back and a commitment to advocating for social change. These are the same ideals that define UDC Law’s mission and shape the student experience.

UDC Law is also one of the most accessible and affordable law schools in the nation. More than 90% of students receive financial aid or scholarships, and the school offers both full-time and part-time evening programs, making UDC Law a standout choice for those seeking to build careers in service of the public good.
