Malcolm X was an African American revolutionary, Muslim minister and human rights activistwho was a prominent figure during the civil rights movement until his assassination in 1965.

His powerful oratory, his role as a key figure in the Nation of Islam, and his advocacy for Black nationalism and Black self-defense are some of the key highlights that made him a dominate force in America. Being born in 1925 this year marks his centennial birthday and in celebration of his 100th birthday Malcom X’s family is pressing President Trump to release government files on assassination. The iconic Black revolutionary was just 39 years old when he was gunned down on February 21, 1965, in Harlem’s Audubon Ballroom. In 2023, the family of Malcolm X filed a $100 million wrongful death lawsuit against the FBI, the CIA, New York City and state, and theNYPD, as well as the District Attorney’s Office, for concealing evidence of their involvement in Malcolm X’s assassination.

Now his family is calling for President Trump to release more details about Malcolm X’s assassination, just as he released thousands of unredacted files related to the assassination of President John F. Kennedyand vowed in an executive order to release files on the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Crump filed a $100 million lawsuit on the family’s behalf, accusing the New York City Police Department and the federal government of conspiring to play a role in the assassination.”Based on what we have learned in investigating these claims for our lawsuit on behalf of Malcolm X’s estate, we are confident that these records will show that there was a ‘deep state’ in the 1950s and the 1960s, with J. Edgar Hoover at the helm, that targeted American citizens and, specifically, they targeted African American leaders, like Martin Luther King, like Fred Hampton, like Huey Newton and, of course, they targeted Malcolm X. These records will lay that bare,”explained Crump.

The NYPD and FBI declined to comment on the lawsuit when it was announced. The New YorkCity Law Department stated it was reviewing the case.
