FAMU alum and former Atlanta, GA mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms has confirmed that she will be running for Georgia governor.
Keisha Lance Bottoms, who served as Atlanta’s 60th mayor from 2018 to 2022, achieved several notable accomplishments during her tenure. While in office she established Atlanta’s first fully staffed office dedicated to promoting equity across city policies and services, created the city’s first LGBTQ Affairs Coordinator position and advisory board, and appointed the first Director of LGBTQ Affairs, and eliminated cash bail for low-level offenses and ended the city’s cooperation with ICE, including removing ICE detainees from the city jail.
As one of Georgia’s top Democrats this came as exciting news for Georgians. “People arelooking for someone to fight for them, to make sure that they are able to put food on their tables, that they are able to provide a quality education for their children, that they are able to live inthriving communities, that your businesses are able to prosper,” Bottomsstated. “I am a fighter, and I want to be a fighter on behalf of people across Georgia. “Those running for governor in 2026 will be vying for an open seat with Gov. Brian Kemp termlimited after his two consecutive terms in the seat. Attorney General Chris Carr is one prominent candidate already in the field for Republicans.
