In the midst of it all, the world met little Gianna Floyd, then just 6 years old. George Floyd’s daughter uttered the famous phrase, “Daddy changed the world.” Now, at the age of 11, she sat down with ABC13 for an interview to talk about what that phrase means, “I want to help people.”

Gianna was just 6 years old when her father, George Floyd, was killed by a police officer which was an act that set fire to the African American community and wired a global movement demanding justice, accountability, and the end of police brutality. Five years later his daughter is ensuring that his legacy is not forgotten. Contrary to popular belief, Gianna gets bullied at her Texas middle school. Her mother, Roxie Washington, is struggling to respond. “Do I run up to the school and act like ‘Who did what?’ Or do I let her fight her own battle?” she said. “I don’t want her to feel like she’s by herself. But I want her to be able to stand on her own two feet.”

Even with that being a challenge for her, she doesn’t allow that to cease what it is she really wants to do. She wants to become a doctor and has hopes that black and white people can come together. There are also plans to build a community center in honor of her father to continue to uplift the community she is a part of. Gianna says that the pictures she looks back on of her and her father are very beautiful and don’t make her cry at all. Although there are some difficult roads ahead for her it doesn’t cloud Gianna’s main goal and that is to help people.
