The Student Leadership Institute (SLI) is an intensive, interactive, and stimulatinglearning program. It is a six-day program designed for newly elected HBCU student leaders(Student Government Associations, Class Officers, Greek Councils, StudentAmbassadors,Programming Boards, and Royal Courts) who are committed to uplifting their organizations and their universities.

This year the conference is being held at Claflin University in Orangeburg, South Carolina.Although there are opportunities for recreational activities each evening, students have particular goals to reach and things to accomplish. Some of the goals are but not limited to:

  • Understand the mission and need for Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
  • Understand the role of student leaders on campuses.
  • Develop an appreciation for planning and organization in the development of students.
  • Serve as catalysts on their respective campuses for empowerment and change.

This opportunity startedoutin 1996 with the same mission, vision, and goals that it hastoday. From May 27th-June 2nd 2025, students from all over will be empowered to lead theircolleges and universities in a way they never have before. One highly anticipated workshop that is happening at this learning program is called, “If It Aint Broke; Fix It”.

The session educates students on updating and enhancing their engagement, processes, and practices for greater target audience impact and challenges students to ask themselves; just because it’s working, is it the best? HBCU students from all over will network, engage, and fellowship with like-mindedleaders such as themselves.
