HBCU Initiative Event In Michigan Empowering Success

Written By Lexx Thornton

It’s time to call all HBCU students and alumni in Michigan. They want you to be part of The HBCU Initiative, which empowers, educates, and fosters excellence. Saturday, August 9th inLansing, Michigan is when the magic happens. HBCU initiatives are anyprojects, programs, orpolicies designed to support and enhance Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).They can range from federal programs aimed at strengthening HBCUs and expanding access to federal funding to private-sector collaborations and philanthropy, and even individual university efforts to partner with HBCUs.

This event is about pouring into our youth, sharing knowledge, and celebrating the legacy ofHBCUs. Nasaan Jackson is looking for students and alumni to represent their school, volunteer, support, and help her lead this important work. HBCU initiatives support black students and promote equity, diversity, and inclusion while strengthening HBCU institutions and fostering partnerships.

HBCUs were founded to provide education inthe face of systemic exclusion. Alumni presence reinforces that mission and preserves the historical and cultural significance of these institutions. Your involvement helps ensure that today’s students benefit from the same—or better—opportunities. Alumniattendance can boost visibility, which influences donor decisions, government support, and partnerships. Some funding is contingent on alumni engagementmetrics (e.g., attendance, giving, volunteering), so your participation can directly lead to morescholarships and campus improvements. Will we see you there? For more information contact Nasaan Jackson atnasaanjackson5@gmail.com
