Grambling State Launches Vanguard Speaker Series and Award

Across history, presidential speaker series and honorary awards have served as platforms to uplift truth, honor excellence, and engage communities in the pursuit of knowledge, culture, and justice. Grambling State University is stepping into that tradition with the launch of The Grambling Vanguard, a presidential initiative designed to showcase bold ideas, creativity, and courageous leadership.

The initiative introduces a campus speaker series that will bring artists, scholars, and practitioners from around the world to Grambling State each semester. Curated to inspire action and provide a cultural and intellectual environment where ideas become catalysts for change, the series will feature lectures, residencies, performances, and curated dialogues that challenge perspectives and spark meaningful engagement.

“The Grambling Vanguard builds on our legacy of excellence and innovation by creating opportunities that empower our students, elevate our institution, and enrich the communities we serve,” said Grambling State President Dr. Martin Lemelle, Jr. “Following the launch of our Endowed Scholarship Program for Global and Experiential Education, this initiative reaffirms our commitment to providing transformative learning experiences that prepare our students to thrive on the world stage.”

A companion recognition, The Vanguard Award, will honor changemakers whose influence, vision, and commitment to service have made a lasting impact on Grambling State and its community. The first award will be presented on September 5, 2025, during The Capital View: Columbus experience in Columbus, Ohio.

The first installment of the Grambling Vanguard speaker series will take place on Wednesday, September 18, 2025, in the Digital Library and Learning Commons at Grambling State University. Attendance is free but requires advance registration at gram.edu/vanguard, where full details and updates are available.

With The Grambling Vanguard, Grambling State opens a new chapter in its history—one that honors its past, celebrates the present, and sets a bold course for the future.
