“Target Cuts Prices on 3,000 Essentials Ahead of Holiday

Written by Lexx Thornton

Target is making a significant move to boost consumer spending this holiday season by announcing price reductions on 3,000 essential items across its stores. This action comes as U.S. grocery prices remain elevated and many low-income families face uncertainty regarding federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.

Effective immediately, the retailer is lowering prices on thousands of products, specifically focusing on food, beverages, and household essentials—the items consumers rely on most. This strategy builds on earlier price cuts this summer on back-to-school supplies.

Lisa Roath, Target’s chief merchandising officer, stated the reductions are “important work that will make a difference for families managing tight household budgets during the holidays.” The price drops are designed to draw budget-conscious shoppers into stores at a critical time of year.

While the full list is extensive, Target offered several examples of the price cuts shoppers can expect to see, highlighting savings on pantry staples and seasonal favorites:

  1. Kraft Mac & Cheese (11 oz): Reduced from $1.99 to $1.69
  2. Market Pantry Ham: Reduced from $2.49/lb. to $1.49/lb.
  3. Pillsbury Pie Crust: Reduced from $4.59 to $3.19
  4. Good and Gather Honeycrisp Apples (3lb bag): Reduced from $6.99 to $5.99

In addition to the store-wide price cuts, Target is focusing on food affordability by rolling out a Thanksgiving dinner deal priced under $20 (before tax) that is designed to feed four people. The company is also supporting community efforts by donating $500,000 to Feeding America as food banks anticipate increased demand during the holiday season.

The push for affordability is particularly timely, as the status of full SNAP benefits remains in legal limbo, potentially leaving more families financially strained this month.
