Thunder celebrates HBCU night and Black History month Feb. 3

The Oklahoma City Thunder is gearing up to celebrate Black History Month with its fourth annual Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Night, Tuesday, Feb. 3.

The Thunder is scheduled to face the Orlando Magic at the Paycom Center while honoring the history and culture of HBCUs, featuring Langston University, Oklahoma’s only HBCU.

Fans can expect pregame photo opportunities with Langston’s drum major, the Golden Feline dance team, a performance of Lift Every Voice and Sing, known as the Black national anthem, a halftime performance from Langston’s Marching Pride Band, chalk wall art, and pennant displays of all HBCUs throughout the arena.

Thunder officials say Langston student Esubiyi Higgens was commissioned by Thunder to design the 2026 HBCU Night T-shirt that will be given away in the T-shirt toss during the game.

Additionally, the Thunder is also accepting applications for its Black Heritage Creative Contest, presented by Sprite. Students in grades 9-12 can enter by submitting an original poster that depicts an inspirational experience, moment, or individual in Black history. Contest winners will be announced during halftime of the Feb. 22 Thunder game.
