Oliver “Power” Grant, an original member of the seminal early 1990s hip-hop group Wu-Tang Clan, has died, the New York City-based group said Wednesday.
He was 52.
“Rest in Power, Power,” the group said Wednesday on X.
WQHT-FM, the iconic New York radio station known as Hot 97 that played a notable role in the rise of hip-hop, and bandmate Method Man both reported Grant’s passing Tuesday.
“Paradise my Brother safe Travels!!” said Method Man, the rapper born Clifford Smith. “Bruh I am not ok.”
It was not immediately known how Grant died.
Grant died as Wu-Tang Clan was nominated for the 2026 class of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
It’s on a prestigious list that includes Luther Vandross, Shakira, Sade, Pink, Oasis, New Edition, Joy Division/New Order, Iron Maiden, INXS, Billy Idol, Lauryn Hill, Melissa Etheridge, Phil Collins, Mariah Carey, Jeff Buckley and the Black Crowes.
