Officials with Entergy Arkansas said the utility’s new scholarship program will serve Historically Black College or University (HBCU) technology majors.
Officials said the Power Your Future Scholarships are now open for applications until May 7. The program will provide 30 scholarships ranging from $2,500 to $5,000, funded by Entergy shareholders, they added.
The program is part of Entergy’s The Power of Prosperity program to promote generational wealth, officials said. They continued that Entergy has pledged $20 million over 10 years to empower HBCU students in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.
Eligible HBCU institutions in Arkansas are Philander Smith University, University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, Southeast Arkansas College and UA – Pulaski Technical College
The available scholarships are broken down by major, with 10 scholarships at $5,000 each for students pursuing bachelor’s degrees in computer science, cybersecurity, information technology, artificial intelligence and related fields.
Twenty scholarships, each worth $2,500, are available to students pursuing associate degrees in process technology.
Entergy Arkansas president and CEO Laura Landreaux said the scholarships were an investment.
“Through our Next Generation Arkansas vision and its Job Power pillar, we are committed to creating pathways to meaningful careers,” she said. “By supporting students in their pursuit of higher education at HBCUs and minority-serving institutions, we are investing in both their future and the long-term economic strength of our communities.”
