The Gulf Coast Challenge is bringing a New Orleans music legend to one of HBCU football’s biggest weekends. Organizers have announced that rapper Juvenile will headline HBCU Fest as part of the festivities surrounding the annual Gulf Coast Challenge, adding a dose of Southern hip-hop energy to the celebration of HBCU culture, music, and athletics.
Best known for chart-topping hits such as “Back That Azz Up” and “Slow Motion,” the Cash Money Records icon is expected to draw fans from across the region as the event combines live entertainment with the excitement of one of the Gulf Coast’s premier HBCU football showcases. Juvenile’s appearance underscores the growing connection between HBCU sporting events and major entertainment acts, helping create an experience that extends far beyond the game itself.
Joining Juvenile on the HBCU Fest stage on October 2 will be fellow Louisiana rapper Webbie, adding even more Southern star power to one of the weekend’s signature events. The concert serves as one of the main attractions leading up to the Gulf Coast Challenge football game between Jackson State University and Alabama A&M University. Over the years, HBCU Fest has grown into one of the most anticipated highlights of the entire weekend, drawing fans from across the Gulf Coast and beyond.

“HBCU Fest has become one of the signature experiences of Gulf Coast Challenge Weekend because it brings people together through music and culture,” Gulf Coast Challenge CEO Charly Duke said in a statement. “We’re excited to welcome Juvenile and Webbie to Mobile for what promises to be an incredible night.”
While music will take center stage during HBCU Fest, football fans are already looking ahead to the highly anticipated matchup between Jackson State and Alabama A&M. The Tigers enter the contest looking to make it two consecutive Gulf Coast Challenge victories after defeating the Bulldogs 57-24 in last year’s game. The 2025 matchup drew more than 14,500 fans to Mobile’s Ladd-Peebles Stadium, highlighting the event’s growing popularity as both a sporting and cultural attraction.
The entertainment lineup extends beyond hip-hop. Gospel music legend Fred Hammond is scheduled to headline the Gospel Explosion on October 1, bringing his award-winning catalog to the Gulf Coast Challenge stage. That same day, the event will also host its annual College and Career Fair, which is expected to welcome students from more than 35 high schools across Alabama and neighboring states. This event will provide prospective students with opportunities to connect with colleges, universities, and career professionals while learning more about higher education.
Held under the theme “The Ultimate HBCU Experience,” the Gulf Coast Challenge continues to offer a blend of athletics, education, entertainment, and community engagement. From nationally recognized musical acts and gospel performances to college recruitment opportunities and one of the season’s premier HBCU football matchups, the event has evolved into much more than a game.
