One Historically Black College and University (HBCU) in the DMV is holding strong to its foundation and was once again recognized nationally for its online education.
Forbes named Bowie State University top 5 of the best HBCUs with online degrees in 2026. The recognition highlights the university’s commitment to providing accessible academic programs to students.
The annual ranking evaluates HBCUs that offer online bachelor’s degree programs using an 18-point methodology that assesses several factors. This includes affordability, student-to-faculty ratio, graduation rates, student retention and institutional reputation.
“This achievement reflects the university’s continued investment in innovative online learning opportunities that empower students to achieve their educational and career goals,” said Dr. Aminta H. Breaux, president of Bowie State University. “We are proud to offer flexible, high-quality degree programs that expand access to higher education while maintaining the academic excellence and supportive environment that define the Bowie State experience.”
The university remains among the nation’s top five HBCUs, joining a distinguished group of institutions recognized for their academic quality and achievements.
