Gov. Stein celebrates 100th Anniversary of NC A&T’s ‘Greatest Homecoming on Earth’

Gov. Josh Stein attended North Carolina A&T State University’s centennial homecoming football game Saturday while celebrating 100 years of NC A&T’s homecoming.

While at the game, Gov. Stein proclaimed Oct. 31, 2026, as “In Recognition of the 100th Anniversary of the Greatest Homecoming on Earth” to honor North Carolina A&T State University’s longstanding cultural, academic and economic impact on the state.

“It’s a joyful honor to take part in the historic ‘Greatest Homecoming on Earth,’ and I thank the Aggies for their warm welcome,” said Gov. Stein. “HBCUs like NC A&T are engines of opportunity, innovation and economic mobility. Their success is our success. Aggie Pride!”

This year marks NC A&T’s centennial homecoming celebration. Known as the “Greatest Homecoming on Earth,” the annual event brings together generations of Aggies to celebrate the university’s legacy. Roughly 200,000 visitors attend the weeklong festivities, generating about $80 million in economic impact for the region.

“Homecoming gives us a major platform to show the nation what a strategic advantage America’s flagship HBCU is for North Carolina,” said Chancellor James R. Martin II. “And to acquaint visitors with the exciting realities of this unique doctoral research land-grant university, the largest HBCU in the nation. Aggie Pride!”

In July, Gov. Stein signed into law a budget that invests nearly $480 million across North Carolina’s five public HBCUs, including North Carolina A&T State University.
