The ambassador of CĆ“te d’Ivoire, a country on the southern coast of West Africa, will visit Bowie State University as part this yearā€™s International Education Week, which runs from Nov. 13-17.

Ambassador Ibrahima TourĆ© will share a collection of national artifacts and traditional foods of CĆ“te d’Ivoire on Thursday, Nov. 16, 2-4 pm. in the Center for Natural Sciences Beacon Room.Ā  A formal program featuring his keynote address will follow at 4-5 p.m.

International Education Week highlights and celebrates the international students and faculty that are a part of Bowie Stateā€™s fabric while spotlighting BSUā€™s study abroad programs and other opportunities for students to add a global perspective to their academic experience.Ā  There are currently 170 international undergraduate and graduate students at Bowie State representing over 31 countries.

ā€œInternational Education Week is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide,ā€ said Siriki Diabate, director of international students and services. ā€œItā€™s a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and Department of Education as part of their effort to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn and exchange experiences.ā€

Diabate hopes that the ambassadorā€™s visit can show the power of international education in action while reminding students they are members of a global world.

ā€œDiplomacy itself is international education,ā€ said Diabate. ā€œItā€™s global learning. Diplomacy was created to make sure we have a fine understanding of international collaboration and partnership.ā€
