A wave of enthusiasm swept through the streets of New Orleans as Dillard University faculty, staff, students, and alumni came together to participate in the 36th Annual UNCF Walk for Education. This year’s event was not only a display of unity and support for our historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs), but it also featured the first-ever battle of the bands, highlighting the musical prowess of Dillard University.
Under the theme “New Orleans, Let’s Move,” participants were encouraged to walk, run, cycle, or roll their way through the city, raising vital funds to transform the landscape of Black higher education in America. The Walk for Education is a nationwide initiative led by UNCF, aimed at supporting HBCUs and providing students with the opportunity to pursue a high-quality education.
Dillard University made a significant impact on the event, with a strong presence from faculty, staff, students, and alumni. Their commitment to building better futures for our students and schools was palpable, as they joined forces with UNCF to make a lasting difference.
The highlight of the event was the battle of the bands, showcasing the talents of Dillard University and Xavier University of Louisiana. As the music echoed through the streets, the atmosphere was electric. The bands brought forth a symphony of sound, infusing the gathering with energy, rhythm, and a true celebration of the arts. It was a vibrant reminder of the power of music to bring people together and create a sense of community.
The participation of Dillard University in the UNCF Walk for Education demonstrates their dedication to supporting HBCUs and ensuring that every student has access to a high-quality education. It is a powerful testament to their ongoing commitment to transforming the landscape of Black higher education.
As we reflect on the success of the 36th Annual UNCF Walk for Education, we are filled with pride and gratitude for the Dillard University community’s unwavering support. The participation of faculty, staff, students, and alumni served as a powerful reminder that education is a collective effort. It is through collaboration and unity that we can create lasting change and transform the lives of those who walk through the doors of our HBCUs.
Let us continue to rally together, to persist in our efforts, and to raise the funds needed to ensure that our students have every opportunity to succeed. The UNCF Walk for Education may be over, but the journey towards equitable education has only just begun. Join us in making a difference, and together we can shape a brighter future for generations to come.
