In a recent announcement from Lincoln University’s Board of Curators, Dr. John B. Moseley has volunteered to be placed on paid, administrative leave while a review is conducted.

Dr. Stevie Lawrence II, currently Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs at Lincoln University, will serve as Acting President during the review process.

“As a Board, we are committed to make certain the mental health of Lincoln University employees is a priority and that every employee is always treated with dignity and respect,” said Board of Curators President Victor Pasley.

“The Board has confidence in the leadership team we have at Lincoln, but as we all work together to serve students and the Lincoln University community, this review will fully examine important questions, concerns and gather facts.

Dr. Moseley agrees those issues should be examined and has volunteered to go on leave during the review so that it can move forward in a fully independent way.”

As we previously reported, Dr. Antoinette “Bonnie” Candia-Bailey sadly passed away this week on January 8th. Family sources officially confirmed Dr. Bailey died by suicide due to distress from “bullying and severe mistreatment” in her role as VP of Student Affairs at Lincoln University Missouri.

Sources state that Dr. Bailey was left “unsupported, disregarded, and abused after countless attempts to speak out on the bullying and harassment she experienced in her role from President Moseley.” Dr. Bailey also reportedly discussed in a letter before her passing, the “stigmatized bullying she faced from the President and other leadership officials,” after disclosing her mental illness to the university.

Sources tell us that administration failed Dr. Bailey in her “cries for help” and should “no longer be allowed to lead Lincoln University.” Since then, the Jefferson community has rallied for accountability, utilizing the hashtag, #FireMoseley to help raise awareness and shed light on the beloved VP alumni’s tragic passing.

“While the Board and University leaders cannot comment publicly on confidential employee personnel information, the recent loss of Dr. Antoinette “Bonnie” Candia-Bailey is tragic,” President Pasley said. “This review will be an important part of the Board’s commitment to listening and addressing important issues. The third-party review will be conducted at the direction of the Board over the coming weeks.”

We continue to keep Dr. Bailey’s family, friends, and Jefferson community in our thoughts and prayers during this time.
