Beyond the Gates, which premiered on Feb. 24, is making history as the first one-hour daytime soap opera to focus on a Black family. It’s the first project to come out of the CBS Studios/NAACP Venture, which was announced in 2020.
Sheila Ducksworth, president of CBS Studios/NAACP Venture, said the organization wanted to uplift a student with the “aspirational experience.”
“We also want to pay homage to HBCUs — which have been a guiding force for students, families and communities for almost 200 years — and also thank Georgia for availing so many resources to us for the creation of ‘Beyond the Gates,’” she added.
A transgender woman from metro Atlanta transgender will no longer run in the Miss Georgia USA race, she announced on Monday.
Applicants will take a brief quiz about the show and submit a video of themselves sharing why they like the series and what the opportunity means to them.
“Beyond the Gates” follows the drama and intrigue of the Duprees, a powerful family from a wealthy Maryland suburb outside of Washington, D.C. You can watch the show on Atlanta News First on weekdays at 2 p.m. or stream it on Paramount+.
