UDC Earns First ABET Biomedical Engineering HBCU Status

Howard Students End Housing Protest After Reaching Deal

By Nicquel Terry Ellis, Students at Howard University have reached an agreement with university officials after a month-long protest over housing conditions on campus. Wayne Frederick, the president of the historically Black college in Washington, DC, said Monday afternoon that the agreement between the school and the students who occupied Blackburn University Center over poor housing concerns is a “welcome step forward.” In a video message and letter posted on the school’s website, Frederick said, “even one issue in one of our dormitories is too many, and we will continue to remain vigilant in our pledge to maintain safe and high-end housing.”

Talladega Freshman Publishes Book on Identity, Healing

By Talladega College, Thubelihle Nkiwane, a freshman majoring in Psychology at Talladega College, recently published her first book titled, To the Inner-Most Self. According to Nkiwane, the book is a guide that will assist young people in developing a sense of identity and self-worth. By Stillman College, Civil rights trailblazer Vivian Malone Jones, the first African-American to graduate at the University of Alabama, was honored posthumously Thursday at Stillman College for her career accomplishments and societal impact. Howard Students Protest Poor Dorm Conditions, Demand Action

By Nicquel Terry Ellis, Jasmine Joof said she has been sick with congestion, coughing and headaches for several weeks after discovering the mold growing in her Howard University dorm caused an allergic reaction. The sophomore said she reported the mold issue to a residential adviser in September, but it was never addressed. So in October, she along with other students facing similar living conditions in their dorms decided they would sleep in tents and air mattresses at the university’s Blackburn Center to protest and demand that officials address their concerns.
