Howard University Interim Chief Information Officer Olga Osaghae was recently listed as a finalist for the 2021 Technical.ly DC awards. The tech and industry publication selected 30 individuals and companies for nomination in areas of leadership, innovation and cultural impact in the Washington metropolitan area over the last year.

Appointed in July 2021, Osaghae leads the University’s vision and deployment of information technology and digital transformation across the institutional enterprise. As a key figure in the integration of the Workday platform, she supports the administration’s strategy for governance, finance, policy, budgeting, security and customer service.

Osaghae helped to lead the University’s response to the ransomware attack in September. She provided critical oversight of the institutional overhaul of network access, reinforced security systems, and redeployed thousands of Howard-issued devices. To date, the University has reinstated full access to all major academic and research applications; restored more than 100 servers supporting operations in student services, human resources, health care and instructional technology; and established new protocols for network access and security.

“Olga’s leadership during one of the most critical times in the University’s history was steady, informed and consistent,” says Tashni-Ann Dubroy, Ph.D., Howard University’s executive vice president and chief operating officer. “The University is better for her role on our operational leadership team and thrilled at her nomination for this meaningful recognition.”

Voting for the Technical.ly DC awards will conclude on December 8, and winners will be announced on December 15.
