The Howard University campus community embraced hundreds of freshmen students moving into campus housing this week. As families travel from near and far, a new class of Bison are welcomed with smiles from student leaders, volunteers, housing staff and administrators.

“I could not have asked for a better move-in. It’s festive, fun and even emotional as parents say goodbye,” said Cynthia Evers, Ed.D., vice president of student affairs.

College Storage and Moving, a moving company founded by a Howard alumnus staffed with college enrolled employees, was on site to assist families with moving items from their cars to their dorm rooms. Even Frank Tramble, vice president of University communications, and Rashad Young, senior vice president and chief strategy officer, lent a hand in pushing carts and aided students in the move-in process.

“I am happy to have students back on campus,” said Young. “We want students to feel comfortable in their home away from home. We’ve worked hard over the summer to prepare the campus and students will continue to see ongoing maintenance throughout the buildings. We have contractors, plumbing, HVAC and electrical on site, even after students move in, to ensure any concerns are immediately resolved. Students will see us very active in the building for weeks and probably even a couple of months after they move in.”

Prior to move-in, the University utilized the Summer months to finalize new upgrades to the buildings. Room by room, every unit has been deep cleaned and painted. New amenities have been added to the residence halls to address student safety and satisfaction with their living experiences. For student convenience, all buildings have a new maintenance protocol for unresolved housing concerns. All concerns can be reported to housingconcerns@howard.edu and will be dealt with in 24 to 48 hours. The new student housing facilities team is tracking these emails for quality assurance.
