Two Delaware State Alums honored at MEAC Tournament

During the tourney week, the MEAC honored Delaware State University basketball star Jahsha Bluntt as one of it 2023 Hall of Fame inductees. The MEAC also recognized Maxine Lewis, DSC Class of 1973, as the University’s 2023 Distinguished Alumnae. By Andrew Skerritt Florida A&M University (FAMU) music business professor Darryl Tookes and other music faculty and students played major roles in recording the recently released The Main Ingredient’s R&B classics Everybody Plays the Fool and Just Don’t Want to be Lonely. Tookes, vocalist, composer, arranger, producer, poet, and activist, was the executive producer, lead singer, conductor, and arranger for the project. FAMU faculty and students provided music and background vocals for the two songs. Shirley Gooding, widow of former Main Ingredient singer Cuba Gooding, and Don W. Saint James produced the recordings. Students want this women’s college to rethink its notion of gender in admissions

By Rachel Treisman Student government positions weren’t the only item on the ballot at Wellesley College’s elections on Tuesday. It also included a referendum on gender inclusivity, which passed. Students at the women’s liberal arts college in Massachusetts approved a ballot initiative proposing that it change its admissions policy to welcome all transgender and nonbinary applicants. Currently, the school only accepts applications from “those who live as women and consistently identify as women,” which includes trans women and nonbinary students who “were assigned female at birth and who feel they belong in our community of women.” The initiative also called

Delaware State University’s Safe Space Project awarded $300,000 grant

The workshop – entitled “Creating a Community-Engaged JEDI-Centered Campus Culture: Action Planning and Assessment Progress” – included participants from the University of Baltimore, Goldey Beacon College, Wilmington University as well as Delaware State University.
