Drake State and Miles College sign MOU to help students succeed

Courtesy of Drake State Community & Technical College Miles College and Drake State Community & Technical College have partnered to create scholarship opportunities and pathways to earning a bachelor’s degree. The institutions’ presidents signed an articulation agreement today at Miles College. ECSU Named Purple Heart University for Service to Military Community

The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 6060, Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 639 and North Carolina Patriot Guard Northeast District honored ECSU with the elite Purple Heart University designation. Sickle Cell Awareness Day: Howard University President Wayne A.I. Frederick Featured at Howard Symposium

The online symposium will feature a discussion with Howard University President Dr. Wayne A. I. Frederick, who lives with the disease, and Harold Fisher of WHUR-FM 96.3. The symposium begins at 3 p.m. The event will also feature door prizes and surprise guests. World Sickle Cell Awareness Day is observed annually  to increase public knowledge and  understanding of sickle cell disease and the challenges experienced by sickle cell patients, their families and caregivers. Dr. Yolanda W. Page named president of Stillman College

Page currently serves as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Savannah State University and will begin her tenure at Stillman on July 1. She will succeed Dr. Cynthia Warrick, who has served as president at Stillman since 2017. Warrick announced her retirement in the fall of 2022. Philander Smith Receives $2M Grant for Elders School of Allied and Public Health

Courtesy of Philander Smith College Philander Smith College is pleased to be the recipient of a $2 million grant from the Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church in support of phase one fundraising for the institution’s Dr. Joycelyn Elders School of Allied and Public Health. The Harry R. Miles College to Offer Summer Programs for Birmingham Students

Courtesy of Miles College Middle-school and high-school students in Birmingham City Schools will have an opportunity this summer to earn college credit and attend summer camps at the historic Miles College, thanks to a new partnership approved recently by the Birmingham Board of Education. The school district will spend up to $100,500 on registration and fees for its students to attend Summer Bear’s Den programs at Miles. The programs will focus on academics and will give students exposure to a college campus. Central State University Housing Solutions continues long-standing partnership with Central State University through $700,000+ unrestricted gift

Courtesy of Central State University Students at Central State University will soon benefit from a $787,000 gift from Columbus-based University Housing Solutions to support activities and programming on the campus in Wilberforce. The donation completes a $2 million pledge by UHS to Central State, Ohio’s only public Historically Black College or University and 1890 Land-Grant Institution.
