The Bowie State women’s bowling team ended the 2023 season as the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) runner-ups. The Bulldogs rolled through two days of competition at the 2023 CIAA Bowling Championship before falling to the top-seed Fayetteville State Broncos 4-0 in the title match.
“The girls put up a good fight,” said head coach Andrew Campbell. “The last couple of seasons it’s always been Bowie against Fayetteville, and we had reigned supreme up until this one time right here. I’m looking at it as one of those stepping stones.”
While the loss snapped the team’s conference championship win streak at six, the Bulldogs still collected their eighth consecutive CIAA Northern Division championship and finished the season 49-12. Additionally, Chalia Gray was named to the CIAA’s All Conference Team. Campbell will be replacing four bowlers next season, but he’s chomping at the bit to hit the lanes and bring the conference title back to Bowie.
“I plan on coming back and getting our crown back,” said Campbell.
The Maryland General Assembly also recognized the bowling team’s legacy of championship performances with resolutions in the House and Senate chambers. The team was recognized by Senator Ron Watson in the Senate Chamber and Delegates Marvin Holmes, Kym Taylor and Adrian Boafo in the House Chamber.
The women’s bowling team members include team captain Cayla Snowden, Paris Anthony, Taylor Harris, Chalia Gray, Takara Wigfall, Olivia Watts, Erin Pearson, Sydney Tabor, Jessica Watts and Afruica Gentle.
